7 Ways To Wear Double Denim This Season

7 Ways To Wear Double Denim This Season

Britney & Justin did not do double denim any favours in the early 2000s, but more than two decades later, fashion week girls around the globe have brought this trend back to life! This statement style is having a moment, and the sudden drop in temperatures in the southern hemisphere calls for even more layers of it - just in time for denim month!

At CALEXICO, we’ve celebrated this versatile fabric in all its forms since our very first day and firmly believe that you can never wear (or have) enough denim. We’re proud to have the largest collection of any multi-brand store in Australia, where you’ll certainly find your perfect fit.

If there’s one lesson to be learnt from the pop star denim disaster - well really, there’s a few -  it’s that there’s a time and place for it (not the red carpet), striking the perfect balance is an art form and last but not least, accessories can make (or in their case break) a look. Here’s how to pull off denim in 2024, so you can harness the power of this humble wardrobe item with absolute confidence.

1. Basic Shirt and Jeans

2024’s answer to co-ord sets is the gateway to double denim. A conservative option, at once effortless and incredibly stylish, this is the easiest way to impress’, with minimal effort. Roll up your sleeves, tuck your top in just right and pair with your Nicky Belt for an instant elevated twist, the CALEXICO way.

2. Two-tone Denim

Who said your denim needs to match? Level up your look by experimenting with complimenting washes, textures and cuts. Think oversized denim jackets with skinny jeans, or light-weight denim shirts with a wide leg jean or cut-off shorts - play with proportions to create a flattering look!

3. Embellished Denim

Who doesn’t love a bit of bling? Jazz up your denim (we love Self-Portrait’s take on this) with stitching, pearls, beads or sequins and let them be the star of your look! Embrace their glitz and keep your accessories simple to let them shine.

4. Mix it up with Denim Accessories

Who said denim was for garments only? While you may want to leave the cowboy hat to Justin (though worn with confidence, you could certainly pull it off), add a denim bag to any outfit for a chic yet relaxed touch - no one does it quite like French designer Isabel Marant! The key to avoiding time-travel to the Noughties? Break it up with non-denim pieces to avoid oversaturating your look.

 5. Retro Denim

We love the Seventies, and so should you! Try pairing daring flares with a silk shirt and platform heels(bonus points if you add in the big hoops to match), or keep it effortlessly elegant with bootcut jeans and Mary Janes. Channel a subtle touch of yesteryear for styling success!

6. Go Monochromatic

If the thought of blue-on-blue intimidates you, this is the perfect place to start. Whether you opt for a straight or structured black look, or a slouchy white or cream fit, monochromatic minimalism will never go out of style.

7. Make it Feminine

Who said denim needs to be pants? We’ve fallen head over heels for the denim skirt trend. Experiment with lengths and textures: try playful mini lengths or A-line maxi silhouettes (which are everywhere this season!) to find your ideal style.

The best-dressed of the moment have taken questionable Y2k fashion choices and put a surprisingly bold and refreshing twist on wardrobe staples. Twenty odd years later, the time has come to pair your favourite pieces with a little more class, to create the perfect chic uniform you can throw on to feel fabulous any day!

If your denim essentials are feeling a little dusty, there’s no better excuse than denim month to come in store or jump online for a refresh! See you soon ladies and gents!
